I’m a sucker for pop culture references to The Last Dragon. Let’s talk about the time an episode of “Everybody Hates Chris” featured The Last Dragon. The TV comedy “Everybody Hates Chris” was inspired by comedian Chris Rock’s teenage years in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Bedford-Stuyvesant. According to Wikipedia Rock was actually a teen from 1978 – 1983 but the show is set between 1982 – 1987. This altered timeframe works out well for Last Dragon fans because it allowed the show to talk about when the now cult classic film came to theatres in 1985 and its influence on Rock’s hood.
What Chris Rock had to say about The Last Dragon
“After The Last Dragon, karate became more popular in the ghetto than poverty. Everybody was doing it. Boys were doing karate. Girls were doing it. Yah! Even old people were doing it.”
The “Everybody Hates Chris” Season 4 Episode 7 featuring The Last Dragon aired Thursday, Jan 05, 2012, on CW.

The Last Dragon reference starts at the 20 min mark and includes a clip of Bruce Leroy sweeping the leg of Sho’nuff’s henchman Beast.
Video Clip Transcript:
Dickerson: Anyway, like I was saying. Taimak is gonna be the next Bruce Lee.
Young Chris: Taimak? You mean Taimak from The Last Dragon? That Taimak?
Narrator Chris: No, Taimak from CNN.
Dickerson: Yeah, that’s right.
Young Chris: I love that movie.
Narrator Chris: After The Last Dragon, karate became more popular in the ghetto than poverty. Everybody was doing it. Boys were doing karate. Girls were doing it. Yah! Even old people were doing it. He’s not doing karate, he’s just crazy.
Dickerson: Hey, we’re going to see a midnight show in Times Square. You can come if you want.
Narrator Chris: No, I can’t.
Young Chris: Midnight?
Dickerson: Yeah, what’s the matter? Past your bedtime?
Narrator Chris: Yes!
Young Chris: Nah. I just had this party I was supposed to go to, but you know, I guess I can skip that.
Dickerson: All right, cool. We’ll see you there.
Narrator Chris: Not at midnight you won’t.
Pop culture references like this demonstrate the significant influence this little movie has had. Like always TheLastDraonTribute.com is the place for your random and somewhat useless Last Dragon knowledge.
Stay tuned for more…
