Major Yasuke News! Chadwick Boseman will play the Black Samurai Yasuke in the upcoming film ‘BLOOD OF YASUKE‘
No official announcement has been made at the time of this writing but the ‘Blood of Yasuke‘ IMDb page now lists the Black Panther himself as the movie’s lead actor and at least one other source has confirmed the news to be true. The project originally titled ‘BLACK SAMURAI’ is currently in pre-production with no release date.
Blood of Yasuke Cast & Crew
At the time of writing, Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther, 21 Bridges, Avengers: Endgame, 42) is the only actor cast. The film is being written by Gregory Wilden (Highlander) and Doug Miro (Narcos, Narcos: Mexico). Produced by Michael De Luca, Stephen L’Heureux. Executives producers Logan Coles and Erik Feig.
Blood of Yasuke Storyline
Unfortunately, it looks as though, despite the evidence to the contrary, this film run with the popular narrative that Yasuke was a slave.
Quoting the IMDb plot summary: “A slave soldier after the fall of Abysinnian Bengal, a black kingdom run by Ethiopians. He was sold into slavery and found himself in the care of Alessandro Valignano, an Italian missionary. They formed a bond, and when there were complications in Rome, he was sent to Japan and took Yasuke with him. There he met Oda Nobunaga, who was interested in all Western things, and through a series of bizarre events, the Jesuit left Yasuke with the warlord, where he became a Samurai.”
Confirmation the Black Panther will play the Black Samurai
In an article about Boseman’s newest film, ‘21 Bridges‘, Collider, confirms that the ‘Black Panther’ star will be the lead for this action-drama about Yasuke, the first Black Samurai.

I first caught sight of this news on the instagram account @theChadwickRealm
The April 30th, 2019 Instagram post reads:
“It’s official!!! Chadwick doesn’t sleep! Our next #ChadwickBoseman film project to look forward to is #BloodOfYasuke! About the true story of an African Samurai. Chadwick could be filming in Africa or Japan depending on how they want to build the setting. He produces and stars in this film. He also produces it with his “partner in crime” as Chadwick called him, Logan Coles. This will be the 3rd project that Chadwick & Logan have teamed up on. The previous team-ups include “Message from the King” and “21 Bridges”. I’m beyond excited for another great Chadwick Boseman film and original story. @ChadwickBoseman is a brilliant character actor.”

My name is Pete.Traina, I was in the .movie theatre next to the guy with the pink shirt. My lines were..why don’t you sit down and shut up. But, the credits have me as the Radio Smasher. If anyone is interested as to why, it is a mystery and secret and got me.to be eligible to be a SAG actor. The director did me a great favor because he called me back after I left , I didn’t like the part of the Radio Smasher. Also, the real radio smasher never got the credit for his part. Boseman is an excellent actor, but he’s too old (Yasuke was in early 20s-early 30s during these events), to light skinned (Oda thought his body was literally stained with black ink. Described his skin as “black, like charcoal), too lean (Yasuke was a big, ripped dude), and slightly too short (Yasuke was exactly 6’2”) to play Yasuke.
